Mobile robot fleets and the software to manage them are continuing to scale. Brain Corp. today announced that its fleet of more than 37,000 autonomous mobile robots, or AMRs, has now covered more than 250 billion sq. ft. of space globally.

The San Diego, Calif.-based company said the milestone indicates that industries around the world are continuing to adopt automation to optimize their operations and address workforce challenges. In May, it opened an office in Bentonville, Ark., to engage with strategic accounts.

“This latest milestone is a testament not only to the success of Brain Corp, but [also] to the shift we’re seeing toward automation across sectors,” stated David Pinn, CEO of Brain Corp. “Whether it’s optimizing inventory management or creating cleaner, safer environments, our autonomy solutions are helping organizations tackle their most complex operational challenges.”

To put this space into perspective, 250 billion sq. ft. (23.2 billion sq. m) is equivalent to 30 times the area of New York City, 4.34 million football fields, or 89 million tennis courts. In addition to the vast area covered, Brain Corp said its fleet also reached more than 19 million hours of autonomous operation — equal to over 2,100 years of continuous operation.

BrainOS enables robotic inventory, floor cleaning

As industries grapple with labor shortages, higher customer expectations, and the need for operational sustainability, robotic and artificial intelligence promise to respond to these challenges and improve productivity.

Brain Corp claimed that its BrainOS cloud-connected platform powers the largest fleet of AMRs operating in commercial public spaces. Its global OEM partners create robots with BrainOS that end customers use to turn manual workflows into automated ones.

The company added that Fortune 500 brands across multiple verticals benefit from the growing portfolio of BrainOS-powered robots and its privacy, safety, and management tools. The BrainOS Sense Suite and BrainOS Clean Suite can automate inventory management and commercial floor care. Brain said enterprises can then shift employee workloads from time-consuming, physically demanding tasks to higher-value activities.

AMR usage increases across industries

Brain Corp said its latest data shows increased utilization of BrainOS-powered AMRs globally. Comparing Q3 2022 to Q3 2024, the average daily usage grew significantly across sectors:

  • Warehouse/industrial: +340%
  • Education: +123%
  • Airports: +91%
  • Retail: +53%
  • Malls: +16%

“This growth highlights continued progress integrating robots into team workflows and demonstrates how Brain Corp’s enterprise tools are helping drive change management,” said the company.

In February, cleaning equipment provider Tennant Co. expanded its relationship with Brain Corp, and last month, JRTech Solutions partnered with the company to integrate its Pricer electric shelf label platform with BrainOS.

‘Crowdsourced learning’ helps fleet, says Brain Corp

As a result of its growing deployments, Brain Corp asserted that it has amassed an “unprecedented” library of data daily. This fuels ongoing improvements via “crowdsourced learning,” it said.

The resolution of an edge case experienced by an individual robot can lead to the adaptation and improvement of the overall fleet, explained Brain. This ensures that each robot deployed benefits from the collective experience of the entire global fleet, it noted.

“What makes this so significant isn’t just the enormity of the area our fleet has covered, but [also] the unique volume of data we’re able to learn from as a result,” added Jarad Cannon, chief technology officer of Brain Corp. This allows us to consistently optimize our technology and quickly adapt to real-world challenges, which means providing ever-increasing value to our customers.”
