ELOKON launches ELOshieldAI to enhance industrial workplace safety

ELOKON, a provider of safety and assistance systems for material handling and intralogistics, today launched ELOshieldAI. The advanced, AI-powered safety system delivers dual-layered, comprehensive protection for industrial workplaces.

The system combines AI-driven, tagless vision detection with the proven UWB-based ELOshield proximity system.

“UWB delivers the precision needed to prevent vehicle collisions and enables intelligent features like speed zoning, while AI lets us identify and analyze pedestrian behavior in real time,” stated Alex Glasmacher, CEO of ELOKON. “With ELOshieldAI, customers can choose the safety configuration that fits their environment—whether that’s badge-based alerts, tagless detection, or both.”

ELOshieldAI combines AI-camera technology powered by highly precise pedestrian-detection algorithms with ultra wideband (UWB) proximity sensors. This intelligent sensor fusion enables real-time detection and analysis of pedestrian and vehicle behavior, even in cluttered, complex, or low-visibility environments.

In all, the system empowers customers with flexible safety options: They can rely on on-body pedestrian alerting for workers equipped with ELOshield badges, tagless pedestrian detection from the forklift using AI cameras, or a combination of both. These options enhance the overall failsafe performance of proximity detection systems, said ELOKON.

The Tornesch, Germany-based company is a developer of automated forklift and fleet management systems. ELOKON serves more than 4,250 customers around the world. It has dedicated customer service teams in the U.S., Germany, and Poland.

ELOKON lists advancements in ELOshieldAI

The company said that ELOshieldAI introduces several key advancements:

  • AI-enhanced pedestrian detection: AI cameras use advanced algorithms to identify human forms and movements with high accuracy, reducing false alarms and increasing responsiveness.
  • Entity classification and contextual awareness: The system can distinguish between pedestrians, vehicles, and stationary obstacles to prioritize critical warnings.
  • Sensor fusion for reliability: UWB provides centimeter-accurate proximity data, while AI visually confirms human presence, enabling cross-validated alerts and interventions.
  • Truck-to-truck collision avoidance and speed zoning: The combination of UWB and AI ensures precise detection of vehicles and supports intelligent safety automation such as automatic speed reduction in defined zones and collision prevention between forklifts, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).

The system also features truck-to-truck detection and dynamic zone monitoring powered by UWB. ELOKON said vehicles equipped with UWB modules can detect one another via direct wireless communication, eliminating false alarms from static objects and improving inter-vehicle awareness.

In addition, UWB ensures accurate detection of trucks entering or exiting predefined safety zones, such as pedestrian walkways or intersections. It enables automated alerts or slowdowns, noted the company.

ELOshieldAI is compatible with a wide range of forklift models and can be easily retrofitted onto existing fleets, asserted ELOKON. The system is fully customizable to meet the specific operational needs of each facility, it said.
