Background
The key to Enabled Robotics success is that they are taking commercially proven technologies and combining them to create a solution that is truly greater than the sum of its parts. Enabled Robotics is a Danish company and they are leveraging two other highly successful Danish technologies to power their system.
The heart of the system is the Mobile Industrial Robots AMR platform. This system provides the mobility for the system, enabling it to easily get around a facility. The first generation of Enabled Robotic solutions are were built on top of the MiR200 AMR. The latest generation is now built around the new MiR250 AMR platform.
The Enabled Robotics solution includes cobot arm, AMR and vision guidance (image courtesy of Enabled Robotics)
The manipulation is provided by a Universal Robotics (UR) collaborative robot (cobot) arm. The UR Lite series deploys a UR5 (5 kg payload) manipulator, while the UR Flex series deploys the UR10 (10 kg payload) manipulator.
All system include integrated vision guidance to enable the cobot arm to accurately locate and acquire items. The video below shows the vision guidance in operation.
Vision guidance is critical to the operation of a mobile manipulator because AMRs today have only about +/- 1 cm of accuracy in their positioning. This means that the AMR base has some error in the position of the arm. However as the video above illustrates, vision guidance can more than make up for any error in the mobile positioning, and enable highly accurate pick and place operations for the cobot arm.
The other innovation that Enabled Robotics is delivering is with the ease-of-use in programming. Enabled Robotics is one of a handful of companies who are delivering a Blockly-based programming interface. Blockly is a Google backed, open source programming solution. Blockly is gaining credibility across a variety of application segments as an easy to learn and use programming motif targeted at non-programmers.
