EUTRACO, one of Belgium’s leading third-party logistics providers, or 3PLs, wanted to maximize storage density while meeting demand for high throughput. The company chose Körber Supply Chain as its automation partner for a new distribution center in Krommebeek, Roeselare.

“At EUTRACO, our priority is to continuously enhance service speed, reliability, and operational scalability for our customers,” stated Serge Gregoir, CEO of EUTRACO. “With growing volumes and rising complexity in logistics, we needed a solution that could support high throughput, optimize space, and future-proof our operations. Körber’s automation concept aligned perfectly with these needs, enabling us to build a warehouse that reflects our ambition to lead in efficiency and innovation.”

EUTRACO started in 1967 as a small family business in Roeselare, Belgium. Under the leadership of the Lievens family, and later of grandson Bart Pattyn, the company has grown into a national and international leader in logistics. In 2017, Gregoir came on board as CEO, and in June 2020, the Pattyn family sold the business to him.

Körber offers competitive pallet handling

Körber proposed a system based on rail-guided vehicles (RGVs) for efficiently distributing pallets to multiple stacker cranes, combined with shuttles for multi-deep pallet storage. This approach optimizes both performance and space utilization so the facility can handle large volumes with agility and precision, asserted the Konstanz, Germany-based company.

In addition, Körber’s warehouse control system (WCS) integrates with the robots to enhance operational efficiency. The company said its software can track goods in real time and features= user-friendly interfaces, including system visualization and monitoring applications.

Körber claimed that its system will enable the complete automation of pallet handling—from automatic unloading upon arrival, to automated storage, and final presentation at the loading docks for outbound distribution—all without manual intervention.

EUTRACO said its choice of Körber was driven by several key factors. Körber said it offered the most competitive cost per pallet using a robust, proven technology with multiple successful installations across Europe.

The modularity and scalability of Körber’s system—adaptable to any warehouse height or footprint—also offered the flexibility EUTRACO wanted for future growth. It said the technology’s response times make it particularly suitable for the dynamic nature of 3PL operations.

Körber said it delivers software, automation, voice, robotics, and materials handling – plus the expertise to tie it all together. The Business Area Supply Chain is part of the global technology group Körber, whose software unit recently rebranded as Infios.

EUTRACO aims for full automation

EUTRACO said this project marks a significant milestone in EUTRACO’s strategic push towards full warehouse automation.

“This project really shows what’s possible when a 3PL like EUTRACO is ready to push the boundaries of automation,” said Filip Van den Broeke, manager for Benelux at Körber Supply Chain. “They came to us with clear goals around speed, space, and scalability — and we delivered a solution that ticks all those boxes.

“What makes this especially exciting for us is that it also reflects Körber’s strong momentum in the Benelux region, where more and more companies are looking for smart, future-ready warehouse systems,” he noted, referring to Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.

“This project highlights Körber’s leadership in warehouse automation and showcases how cutting-edge logistics technology can be tailored to meet the specific needs of third-party logistics providers,” said the company. “It also reinforces Körber’s commitment to delivering scalable, high-performance solutions that future-proof supply chains across Europe.”
