Geek+ and Kerry TJ Logistics automate logistics center for New Balance

Problem

Kerry TJ Logistics is a Taiwan-based provider of freight warehousing and delivery services. The company offers truck container transportation, international express delivery, valuables consignment and joint distribution services, and delivery services for internet commerce, multi-level marketing, mail order, and television shopping merchandise.

The company was tasked with creating a state-of-the-art logistics center for New Balance. In 2022, New Balance brought in a record $5.3 billion in revenue, and its sales have been growing faster than some of its biggest rivals, like Nike and Adidas, according to reporting from CNBC.

For this new logistics center, the companies said they had a few tricky requirements to meet. The automated center first needs to be able to handle both B2B and B2C orders for New Balance. Additionally, the companies said they wanted the logistics center to be sustainable.

Solution

To meet these requirements, Kerry TJ Logistics said it turned to its already established partner Geek+, a developer of mobile robotics systems for logistics. Geek+ and Kerry TJ Logistics previously collaborated on automating another one of Kerry TJ Logistics’ facilities in Taiwan earlier this year.

For this new logistics center, the companies deployed Geek+’s Shelf-to-Person system, which equips warehouses with advanced capabilities. These capabilities include heatmap analysis and inventory rearrangement according to frequently picked items, which the companies say enhances overall picking efficiency.

Geek+’s Shelf-to-Person PopPick System can boost efficiency by over 300%, according to the company. The system uses the company’s P series robots to move inventory shelves and pallets directly to picking stations. This eliminates redundant walking of the picking workers, and Geek+ says can also improve the accuracy of picking.

“We are excited to extend our cooperation with Kerry TJ Logistics and support them in their ongoing mission to revolutionize supply chain operations,” Billy Siu, business director of Taiwan at Geek+, said. “The expedited deployment of this project, just within 6 weeks, underscores the agility of our technology and its ability to adapt to fluctuating demand.”

Because Geek+ robots can work in a dark warehouse, Kerry TJ Logistics was able to significantly cut down on energy usage in the facility, reducing its carbon footprint.

By combining Geek+’s cutting-edge robotics with Kerry TJ Logistics’ expertise in logistics and supply chain management, the automated warehouse presents a sustainable and scalable solution capable of handling massive volumes of orders and SKUs while meeting rapid delivery demands.

The companies say this latest collaboration also solidifies Geek+ and Kerry TJ Logistics’ mutual commitment to revolutionizing logistics, delivering high picking efficiency, and optimizing space utilization.
