Avidbots Corp. has launched the smallest fully autonomous floor scrubber in its portfolio, a new mobile robot called Kas. It is designed to clean floors in retail, transportation, health care, and education facilities. The Kitchener, Ontario-company said the robot widens the range of facility sizes that it can serve.

Avidbots already offers the Neo 2 and Neo 2W floor scrubbers. These larger autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) are designed for larger facilities. The Neo 2W is designed for cleaning warehouse floors and was launched in April 2023. NEO 2 was Avidbots’ original offering, launching in September 2020.

“Kas represents a true evolution in the experience that customers can expect from commercial cleaning robots,” stated Pablo Molina, chief technology officer, vice president of product, and co-founder of Avidbots.

“It is the culmination of more than a decade of experience designing robots and years of research and development,” he added. “Avidbots is leading the charge in automated cleaning solutions by delivering a truly touch-free experience, improving workforce efficiency, ensuring consistent productivity, and offering the ability to accurately measure cleaning performance across fleets of robots.”

Kas has a smaller footprint than its siblings

Kas has a 48 L (13 gal) solution capacity and up to 40.8 kg (90 lb.) downforce, according to Avidbots. It can operate in aisles as small as 1.055 m (41 in.) wide, and it requires aisles 1.55 m (62 in.) wide to complete a U-turn.

The cleaning robot uses 55.8 cm (22 in.) cleaning discs and can operate for more than three hours on a single charge. The robot is equipped with swappable batteries so that an operator to quickly return the robot to work.

“We’ve been testing Kas in our retail store with tremendous success,” said Richard King, store manager at Canadian Tire Welland. “Canadian Tire’s floor plan changes frequently with seasonal displays and rotating inventory. Kas easily navigates these changes, freeing up valuable staff time and allowing our floors to remain beautifully clean with little disturbance to customers.”

Users can operate all Avidbot systems with the same software

The software for Kas is the same operating system and fleet management software that Avidbots developed for its larger siblings. The robots can sense their surroundings and use real-time obstacle avoidance with dynamic path planning to make their way through a facility while optimizing the cleaning coverage, the company said.

Operators can combine the entire Avidbots product range within a facility to optimize floor-cleaning efficiency, quality, and consistency, asserted the company. It claimed that its unified fleet management software is user friendly and includes extensive service and support, simplifying the cleaning process.

Avidbots offers 24/7 remote help, detailed reporting, analytics, and real-time monitoring via the Command Center.

“Kas – along with Neo and Neo 2W – answers a growing need in the market to automate cleaning that spans across all sectors,” said Faizan Sheikh, co-founder and CEO of Avidbots. “Retail, in particular, stands at the forefront of automation adoption, and we’re thrilled to assist in realizing the industry’s automation objectives.”

“Our customers are seeking a solution that simplifies their cleaning process, reinforces their store image, and allows their teams to focus on higher-value tasks,” he said. “This is where Avidbots and Kas shine.”
