Körber Supply Chain last week announced a new collaboration with Iron Mountain Inc., a global leader in information management services. Körber said new project further expands its presence in Southeast Asia and demonstrates its commitment to providing cutting-edge warehouse automation for businesses of all sizes.

Founded in 1951, Iron Mountain offers a range of services, including digital transformation, data centers, secure records storage, information management and governance, asset lifecycle management, secure destruction, and art storage and logistics. The Boston-based company has more than 240,000 customers worldwide.

Iron Mountain said it enables customers to unlock value and intelligence from their stored digital and physical assets at speed and with security while helping them meet their environmental goals. In seeking out an automation provider, it wanted to consolidate operations at multiple sites in Singapore into a single, more efficient location.

Körber builds high-density storage

Körber created a high-density, shuttle-based storage system for Iron Mountain that provides approximately 1.2 million cubic feet (3,3980 cu. m) of storage capacity. The system includes autonomous pallet shuttles and automated lifters that Körber designed to optimize storage and retrieval processes.

With multiple deep racking, the system offers more than 19,000 pallet locations, significantly increasing storage capacity while maximizing space efficiency, said Körber.

It also includes the Körber Warehouse Control System (WCS). The company asserted that this system interfaces with the client’s existing host system, ensuring smooth integration and real-time operational visibility.

“We are excited to have Iron Mountain join our growing portfolio,” stated Simon Tan, managing director of automation for Southeast Asia at Körber Business Area Supply Chain.

“This project marks an important milestone as we continue to expand our presence in the warehouse automation industry in Southeast Asia,” he added. “We look forward to helping Iron Mountain achieve its goals and drive long-term success.”

Iron Mountain maximizes space usage

By maximizing land utilization and achieving higher storage density per square meter, Körber said its tailored warehouse automation will make the most efficient use of Iron Mountain’s available space.

Konstanz, Germany-based Körber Supply Chain offers a range of supply chain systems for business of different sizes, strategies, or appetites for growth. It said it can help customers address supply chain complexity with robots, software, automation, mail and parcel systems, voice technology, and materials handling systems – plus the expertise to tie it all together. The Business Area Supply Chain is part of the global technology group Körber.

In August, Körber Supply Chain Software announced that it had acquired MercuryGate International Inc. The company said it plans to expand its portfolio across supply chain operations with the transportation management systems (TMS) provider.

In October, Körber opened an innovation center in Dallas. It includes a full-scale, end-to-end setup of Körber’s advanced parcel and postal sortation and materials handling equipment.
