Every day, global supply chains grow more and more complex. Meanwhile, operators demand ever-increasing adaptability and scalability in supply chain execution systems. To address this, Körber Supply Chain Software today announced that it has acquired MercuryGate International Inc.

The company said it plans to expand its portfolio across supply chain operations with the transportation management systems (TMS) provider. Körber also said the strategic acquisition will strengthen its expertise in reducing planning silos, accelerating the resolution of issues, and improving customer and business outcomes.

Körber added that its adaptive portfolio will make it a leader in managing the movement of goods, from procurement to receipt and fulfillment to the end customer.

“Our customers navigate dynamic, volatile supply chain environments under increasingly high expectations for order fulfillment,” stated Ed Auriemma, CEO of Körber Supply Chain Software. “With the acquisition of MercuryGate, Körber Supply Chain Software is poised to offer an unparalleled combination of advanced technology and deep industry expertise to create innovative processes to help businesses manage these challenges.”

Konstanz, Germany-based Körber Supply Chain Software is a joint venture between Körber AG and KKR. It said it develops adaptive, scalable, end-to-end supply chain systems.

How Körber customers can benefit from MercuryGate

Cary, N.C.-based MercuryGate claimed that its Smart Transportation suite supports all transportation nodes and segments. The company‘s software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, and connected technologies to automate transportation management functions.

Smart Transportation makes shipping intelligent, simple, sustainable, and transformative for customers including third-party logistics providers (3PLs), shippers, brokers, and carriers, claimed MercuryGate. It and Körber Supply Chain Software said the acquisition will enable customers to benefit from:

  • Systems that connect across inbound and outbound supply chain activities. This will improve cost efficiencies and customer experiences by optimizing the placement, usage, and routing of goods.
  • A resilient and reliable supply chain platform with visibility across inventory pools. This enables customers to identify growth opportunities as well as predict and rapidly respond to potential disruptions.
  • Access to simulation capabilities. These will help customers evaluate future supply chain strategies and understand return on investment (ROI) across their local and global businesses.

In addition, customers will benefit from integrated processes across functions, faster and more accurate decision-making, and the ability to mitigate risks and disruptions more effectively, said the companies.

Acquisition a step to real-time optimization

“According to IDC’s Multi-Industry Supply Chain Survey 2024, 22% of respondents plan to reduce costs/eliminate waste/drive efficiency, and 17% plan to improve end to end supply chain orchestration capabilities over the next 12 months,” wrote Sean Elliott, chief technology officer of Körber Supply Chain.

“The addition of MercuryGate’s multimodal, SaaS-based TMS to Körber’s supply chain software business will create a comprehensive, value-driving, supply chain offering for global industry leaders,” said Joe Juliano, CEO of MercuryGate. “The combined company is positioned to deliver the broadest and deepest set of supply chain execution software solutions available worldwide.”

Körber said it hopes to eventually create a unified supply chain execution suite that can offer real-time optimization and collaboration across the supply chain. This acquisition brings it a step closer to this goal, said the company.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
