LG Electronics Launches UV Disinfection AMR

LG Electronics announces that they are launching a new UV Disinfection autonomous mobile robot in it’s CLOi line of AMRs. This is the first in a series of new LG CLOi autonomous robots planned for introduction in the United States during 2021. The robot will be unveiled at the Digital CES® 2021 show in January.’

Disinfection Robot Launches In January In The USA

LG Business Solutions USA plans to offer the UV robot to U.S. hospitality, education, corporate, retail, restaurant, and transportation customers in early 2021.

“We hope LG’s first UV disinfection robot will give our customers, and in turn their customers, peace of mind,” explained Michael Kosla, vice president, LG Business Solutions USA. “Whether it’s hotel guests, students in classrooms or patrons of restaurants and other businesses, they can rest assured that the LG autonomous UV robot will help reduce their exposure to harmful bacteria and germs,” he said.

The robot is designed to disinfect high-touch, high-traffic areas of a facility. The robot uses UV light to perform the disinfection process. UV light is well understood and has proven effective as a disinfection protocol. The robot will be able to navigate around tables, chairs and other furniture, generally irradiating a room’s touchable surfaces in 15 to 30 minutes, disinfecting multiple areas on a single battery charge.

“A higher level of disinfection is going to become the new customer expectation in the new contactless economy where we now all live, work, learn and play,” Kosla said.  “LG is bringing to bear its expertise in robotics, artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles for creative solutions like this to meet specific customer requirements.”

The robot uses its built-in sensors to avoid obstacles and also to identify when humans are present during a disinfection cycle. This safety features prevents the humans from being exposed to the dangerous UV light rays (which are deadly to viruses and bacteria).

LG has launched other versions of its CLOi service robot in the past. These robots have been deployed into concierge and service applications. However, LG is late to market with this disinfection solution as most of the competing AMR vendors released UV disinfection solutions earlier in 2020.

The Mobile Robot Guide released the Disinfection Solutions Buyers Guide in April with a complete overview of all of the various autonomous mobile robot based disinfection solutions available on the market. The Disinfection Solutions Buyers Guide has recently been updated to include the LG Disinfection Robot. If you are in the market for an autonomous disinfection solution, this Buyers Guide is the best investment to save time and effort in researching the market and understanding all of the various solutions.
