MiR adds a large payload mobile robot platform to its lineup
June 19, 2018
At Automatica 2018 in Munich Germany this week, Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) announced the availability of it’s largest mobile robotic platform, the MiR500. The MiR product line now consists of three different payload sized platforms.
“With the MiR500, we are extending the proven, strong technology and safety features that have made us the leading global supplier of autonomous mobile robots,” said Thomas Visti, CEO of Mobile Industrial Robots. “The MiR500 was developed to meet the needs of new and existing customers who have seen the value in automating the internal transport of heavy items and Euro-pallets. With MiR500, we’re setting new standards for how companies can use autonomous mobile robots while opening up significant new market opportunities for MiR.”
The MiR500 is designed to automate the transportation of pallets and heavy loads across industries. With a payload of 500 kg, speed of 2 m/sec and a footprint of 1350×920 mm, MiR500 is the largest, most powerful, fastest and robust collaborative, autonomous mobile robot from MiR.
With the ability to quickly and easily integrate different top modules, the MiR500 can be equipped with pallet forks, conveyors, a robot arm or other options to support a wide range of applications. As a result, the vehicle can autonomously pickup and dropoff a payload.
The MiR500 uses the same user interface as it’s little brothers: the MiR100 and MiR200. This means that the vehicle can quickly be added to a current fleet of MiR robots. The MiR500 includes similar safety features and can operate safely and collaboratively around humans.
MiR has grown quickly since its founding in 2013, with sales rising by 500 percent from 2015 to 2016, and 300 percent from 2016 to 2017. With its second US office opening in San Diego this spring, and strong growth continuing worldwide, MiR expects to increase the number of employees from 65 to about 120 in 2018.
