GreatStar OLEI, a leading global provider of advanced LiDAR and thermal camera sensors, alongside MorpheusTEK, today released a leading-edge 3D LiDAR at a game changing industry price of $1750. This solution and price redefine the application and adoption of 3D sensors for autonomous mobile robots.
LiDAR sensors typically make up over 30% of bill of material costs for an autonomous mobile robotic (AMR) system, with typical LiDAR units costing between $5,000 and $10,000 (USD). LiDAR is used for obstacle detection, navigation and mapping tasks on an AMR.
This new LR-16F 3D LiDAR Sensor is a cost-effective, industrial quality sensor that redefines the usage, durability, and adaptability of sensor technology. This sensor provides a three dimensional (3D) point cloud of objects within the LiDARs field-of-view. The unit has a 100 m sensing range and a 16 channel output.
Applications for this 3D LiDAR include solutions for:
- Drones
- Autonomous guided vehicles
- Autonomous mobile robots
- Autonomous vehicles
- People/traffic monitoring
- Mobile mapping.
“This is equivalent to Ford bring the Model T to the masses, when automobiles reduced cost it triggered mass adoption”, says Phil Hennessy CEO MorpheusTEK and exclusive Partner of GreatStar OLEI for North America. “The reduction in robotics navigation sensors will help usher in a new world of robotics platforms and enabling mass adoption of drones and autonomous mobility solutions”.
The GreatStar OLEI 3D 16-channel LiDAR is made possible through a world-class partner supply chain collaborative of “all-star” global design and component leaders, including US-design, German-precision laser drivers and motors, Japanese sensor technology and China quality manufacturing. OLEI is a business unit of the largest laser driver purchaser and the largest laser measurement manufacture in the world. These economies of scale and know how allow OLEI to produce this quality at an affordable price.
“With our 3rd generation $1750 3D LiDAR, I am excited to see the step change that will occur making all kinds of robotics and automation finally possible,” added Dr. Yongping Wang CTO of OLEI. “When we started OLEI we targeted this 3D LiDAR quality and price and after 5 years it has become a reality.”
