Quick Overview:

Omron acquired Adept Technology in 2016. Adept was one of the innovators in the autonomous mobile robot market and Adept was the first company to bring an industrial autonomous mobile robot platform to the market. The Omron Cart Transporter is another innovation from Omron, which enables the mobile robot to engage with, and move a mobile cart around the facility. The cart transporter improves the throughput of the mobile robot system as a cart can be queued while it is loaded and unloaded. Other AMR vendors have now brought a cart moving solution to market as well.

OMRON has extended their product line in late 2019 and 2020 with the LD250 and the HD-1500 platforms. These two new robots have been developed and released since the acquisition of Adept.

Background

The Omron Mobile Robot is a self navigating autonomous mobile robot designed for dynamically moving material in challenging environments that may include confined passageways as well as dynamic and peopled locations. Unlike traditional autonomously guided vehicles (AGVs), the Omron Mobile Robot requires no facility modifications, such as floor magnets or navigational beacons.

The Omron Enterprise Manager is their fleet management solution. The fleet manager keeps track of all of the robots operating in a facility and communicates job requests to the independent vehicles.

The OMRON Cart Transporter was the first autonomous cart moving solution on the market. It remains the only cart moving solution to include side LIDAR to enable the vehicle to identify and and avoid low hanging obstacles when moving a cart.

Omron is a world-wide leader in manufacturing solutions, providing a complete line of robotic arms, PLC’s and sensing technology. The mobile robot solution works seamlessly with all of the other Omron industrial solutions.
