Theisen’s Home•Farm•Auto offers a wide range of products, including farm and ranch supplies, pet food, home improvement essentials, and outdoor gear. Simbe Robotics Inc. this week said that its Tally inventory robots are now deployed at the retailer’ regional stores in Dubuque, Iowa; Dyersville, Iowa; and Jefferson, Wis.
The deployment marks Theisen’s first phase in adopting cutting-edge technology to deliver a better experience to customers and associates alike, said Simbe.
South San Francisco-based Simbe said it is in growth mode, actively building its installed base as retailers realize the value of accurate, near real-time stocking information. The company last month announced that Prime Markets is the first retailer in Saudi Arabia to use its autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in local stores.
In addition, Simbe won a 2024 RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award for its rollout at BJ’s Wholesale Club. In March, it was named to Fast Company’s annual list of “the world’s most innovative companies.”

Simbe applies AI, robotics to inventory taking
The Tally inventory-tracking robots use artificial intelligence and computer vision to continuously scan store shelves, explained Simbe Robotics. The system detects out-of-stock items, pricing errors, and misplaced products, all while collecting comprehensive product data and providing quick actions for Theisen’s associates.
Simbe claimed that its technology can enhance retail operations and the customer experience by providing insights that allow store teams to ensure adequate stock and accurate pricing. Tally can also help accelerate the fulfillment of online orders.
Designed with the front-of-house retail environment in mind, Tally operates intuitively and unobtrusively. Simbe said its AMR emits subtle sounds to avoid startling shoppers as it scans shelves.
When it encounters people, the robot is programmed to pause, allowing customers to complete their tasks before navigating around them or returning later, ensuring an uninterrupted shopping experience.
Tally frees Theisen’s team to focus on customer experience
Simbe Robotics added that its system aims to simplify store teams’ responsibilities, making their jobs easier and more enjoyable by freeing up time for improved customer support.
Family-owned and operated since 1927, Theisen’s Home•Farm•Auto has 24 locations across Iowa and Wisconsin. The Dubuque-based company said it is committed to quality, service, and supporting the communities it calls home.
“We are committed to delivering the highest-quality shopping experience for our valued customers, and Tally is a powerful tool for taking that to the next level,” said Steve Jensen, chief merchandising and marketing officer of Theisen’s.
“Bringing Tally to our Dubuque, Dyersville, and Jefferson locations is an exciting step forward,” he said. “This technology makes daily tasks more efficient, so our teams can focus on what matters most—taking care of customers.”
