Last week, representatives from Unilever and FedEx visited MassRobotics to see Black-I Robotics and interact with other residents.Â
Black-I Robotics highlighted its mixed-case palletization solution using two autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) with its robotic arm. This demonstration showed the potential of automation in streamlining warehouse operations and enhancing efficiency.
The visit provided an opportunity for several other residents and ecosystem startups to showcase their technologies. They included Tutor Intelligence, Simpl Automation, Floatic, Ubiros, Realtime Robotics, and Resix, as well as Vecna Robotics. Each company introduced its systems, highlighting the technology developed within the MassRobotics ecosystem.
“The event is exactly what MassRobotics is all about—bringing together industry leaders, innovators, and technology pioneers to drive advancements in robotics,” the organization said.
Inside Black-I Robotics’ technology
Black-I Robotics initially developed its heavy-lift arm, now used for palletizing, for the U.S. Department of Defense. The robot moves artillery to free up soldiers for more important work.
The Tyngsborough, Mass.-based company’s patented battery cycle technology enables the arm to work without any downtime. Its vision and path-planning technology establishes a safety zone that enables the arm, riding on an AMR, to quickly and securely move through a warehouse.
This enables it to, for example, pick and place payloads without bumping into vehicles, machines, and, especially, people. Black-I Robotics said it enhances productivity and efficiency by eliminating the need for fixed robots at the end of each production line.
MassRobotics a strategic partner for Robotics Summit
MassRobotics will be returning to the 2025 Robotics Summit & Expo as an exclusive strategic partner. The event will take place on April 30 and May 1 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. It will bring together more than 5,000 developers focused on building robots for aerospace and defense, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, and other markets.
At the show, MassRobotics will run its 2025 Form and Function Robotics Challenge, a career fair, an Accelerator Showcase, and a presentation from the latest cohort in its Healthcare Robotics Startup Catalyst.
Attendees of the Robotics Summit & Expo can gain insights into the latest enabling technologies, engineering best practices, and emerging trends. There will be over 70 speakers on stage, more than 10 hours of dedicated networking time, a Women in Robotics Breakfast, and more.
The Robotics Summit also offers numerous networking opportunities, a Career Fair, a robotics development challenge, the RBR50 Robotics Innovation Awards Gala, and more.
Co-located with the event is DeviceTalks Boston, the premier event for medical technology professionals, currently in its tenth year. Both events attract engineering and business professionals from a broad range of healthcare and medical technology backgrounds.
