Vanderlande Industries BV, a global provider of warehouse automation solutions, yesterday said it will offer Hai Robotics Co.’s mobile robots with its Tote AV portfolio in North America.

The automated case-handling robots (ACRs) are ground-based systems that operating in secured, fully automated environments for case and tote handling. The partners said this collaboration enables warehouses to use Hai Robotics’ technologies with Vanderlande’s project-delivery expertise.

The companies added that Hai’s portfolio complements Vanderlande’s shuttle-based ADAPTO automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS). ADAPTO is designed to deliver “exceptional storage density and throughput for high-performance fulfillment operations relied upon by the world’s largest brands.”

ACR works in greenfield or brownfield environments

Norcross, Ga.-based Hai Robotics said its ACR is modular, flexible, and scalable for both existing and new warehouses. The system has less stringent racking and floor requirements in comparison with other ASRS options, so it needs less fixed infrastructure and can be deployed more quickly, it claimed.

The company‘s robot won an RBR50 Innovation Award when it was introduced in 2022. Since that time, Hai Robotics has made improvements and deployed numerous units into production around the world.

Hai said it designed the ACR to be adopted with minimum disruption to ongoing operations, which appeals to businesses that anticipate frequent or major changes over time. The equipment operates with almost any standard racking, container type, and size, and it has fewer environmental requirements for installation, asserted the company.

Hai Robotics said the proven benefits of its ACRs include:

  • Increases operational efficiency up to 4x over manual processes and workflows
  • Reduce storage footprint up to 75%
  • Increase daily order throughput by 3x
  • Increase order picking accuracy to 99.9%
  • Do not require tracks or structural grid systems
  • Eliminates human travel for order picking
  • Uses traditional racking systems that can be quickly constructed

“We’re excited to collaborate with Vanderlande to revolutionize warehouse automation in North America,” stated Matt Kelly, director of strategic partnerships and commercial development at Hai Robotics USA.

“By merging our cutting-edge robotics with Vanderlande’s proven automation expertise, we’re enabling businesses to optimize their operations, increase scalability, and drive greater efficiency like never before,” he said.

Vanderlande offers a complete tote-handling solution

Vanderlande said Tote AV provides options for facilities looking to add an ASRS where shuttle-based systems may not be appropriate. The Netherlands-based unit of Toyota Automated Logistics Group said the integration of Hai Robotics’ modular ACR into its Tote AV portfolio ensures that materials handling systems can meet the needs of fast-growing organizations.

“At Vanderlande, we are committed to providing our customers with the material handling and fulfillment solutions they need to realize their goals, regardless of where they are in their automation journey,” stated Greg Conner, president of warehouse solutions at Vanderlande..

“We continually evaluate innovations that can be integrated into our portfolio and further empower and provide flexibility to our customers,” he added. “In shared deployments, we have seen the powerful impact of Hai Robotics’ ACRs and know they are ideally suited for organizations that need to quickly deploy an automated picking and storage solution or modernize existing facilities.”

“Hai Robotics is a market leader in ACR technology, with extensive experience and successful deployments in North America,” Conner concluded. “Together with Vanderlande’s portfolio, execution capabilities, and project-delivery capabilities, Hai Robotics and Vanderlande can provide North American customers with flexible ASRS solutions with short install timelines and a robust ROI [return on investment].”
